My exit interview

Memorable for the right reasons
Managers are memorable for the impact they have on our lives, whether positive or negative. Others are forgettable because they don’t make an impact either way. I was fortunate to work for a CEO who was memorable for the right reasons.
Take responsibility for your own development
When my job lacked direction I reached out to my network and met with former colleagues. The occasional catch-up and professional discussion became a weekly fixture. I didn’t realise it until several months later, but we’d accidentally co-founded a learning and development group.
Who are you competing against?
There've been times over the years when I’ve lost sight of how I measure up against myself, focusing instead on competing against others. Worse have been the times when I’ve stagnated from not having goals or become complacent and sat on the sidelines while others progressed with their careers.
What’s your process?
When I first started blogging I didn’t really have a process in place. I had ideas in my head however my writing took on a life of its own and didn’t communicate my original intentions for the post. I realized quickly that I needed a writing process.
What I learned job hunting
